Pramod Viswanath : Artist statement

Every image that I have made and that you see on this site is indeed results of patient hours spent with lots of hard work exploring and endless learning on field. When ever I am shooting on field, irrespective of my photographic success, I make sure I maintain a safe and sufficient distance from the subjects that I shoot. I do ethical photography and I do not believe in teasing animals for “that one shot”.

I shoot with very high quality Canon DSLR body including Canon EOS 5D Mark II coupled with a wide array of Canon lenses.

My equipment:

>  Canon 300mm F2.8 L IS USM
> Canon EF 100mm F2.8 Macro USM
> Canon 17-40 F4 L IS USM
> Canon 50 1.8 II
> Canon 24-105 F4 L IS USM
> Hoya HMC 77mm Circular Polariser Filter
> Canon 2X TC II
> Canon RS80N3 remote switch
> Gitzo 5540 CF tripod
> Wimberley II
> Arca Swiss Monoball Z1 single pan ballhead

With regards my photographic ideology and philosophy, I make sure I don’t add / remove elements from the scene.

With the current digital technology, it is always easier for people speak low of photographers. We do understand that with the emergence of newer software technologies, it is hard to differentiate between natural elements and digitally manipulated ones. Post-processing of images is a hard reality and is required to render the scene as seen and experienced and witnessed by me. I do my best to image the scene using traditional single exposures most of the times. Ocassionally I bracket the exposures for a wider dynamic range to get it close to reality. Again, ‘real’ is a relative word! At any point in my photographic career I have strived towards making images honestly that resonates with my inner conscience and original scene as seen by me with modest color / contrast adjustments only. I will continue to work on this philosophy and ideology.
